Having your customers and employees trust your business is more important than you realise, but how do you build this trust? It isn’t just one aspect of your business that builds maximum trust. It is a combination of several strategies – some of them are common sense, others you need to pay more attention to. It is more than just appearing to be trustworthy because you have an impressive Internet presence thanks to striking web design and an interactive website. Trust needs to be earned.

Sell yourself

It is important that you let potential clients know that you can do the job better than your competitors. Most importantly, tell them how you will do it better. Leave potential clients with no doubt that you are the right person for the job regardless of the price. They need to know that you are the expert and that using someone else will result in an inferior product or less professional service.

Unleashing the power of the Internet is the best way to get this message across in the modern business world with more people turning to the World Wide Web to search for someone to provide a service or product. Effective social media and a solid web strategy are vital.

Demonstrate

Let your customers actually see what you offer in action. If you can, let them feel it, handle it, use it. If you are targetting a wide market, post videos on YouTube, social media or your website demonstrating the product or service. If you can’t get to people, consider a video conference. Just remember that if people can physically touch it or see it in action then they are more likely to be able to relate to it.

Use testimonials

Having someone say how good your service is or product performs is a powerful persuader. It isn’t simply a matter of having someone say that you are great, however. The testimonial should reflect how the product or service helped your client. It should highlight the benefits of your expertise. For example, if you are in the business of improving page rankings via SEO, then have a client say how in several months you went from the bottom of the pile to the first page of Google.

Provide a guarantee

Many people see a guarantee as peace of mind. They know that if that product or service doesn’t reach expectations or achieve what was promised, they can get their money back. It also shows that you are confident in your business and take your reputation seriously. Clients will also see a guarantee as a sign that it is unlikely they will have a problem – businesses would not offer a guarantee if they were having to refund money regularly.

Word of mouth

While this is often the most under-estimated way to build trust in your business, it is also the most powerful. Having clients tell their friends about how good you are is free publicity that speaks volumes. This is particularly relevant in today’s modern society with social media playing such a big part in our decision-making process. Having clients who are willing to recommend your business to their friends is the ultimate display of trust and it tells others that you are reputable and reliable – that’s because friends trust each other!
